Sardenaira is a cheeseless Italian pizza from the Ligurian region. It is very similar to pissaladière. Although called a pizza, some consider it closer to a focaccia. In the city of Sanremo, in western Liguria, it is topped with salted anchovies, local olives, garlic cloves and capers. It is known by the name sardenaira or pizza all'Andrea, after Admiral Andrea Doria (1466-1560), whose favorite dish was a slice of bread with olive oil, garlic and salted anchovies. The dish predates the more well-known Neapolitan pizza. Since the dish was created before the Columbian Exchange, traditionalists do not add tomatoes. --- Entry compiled automatically from [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3950519) and Wikipedia.
