Foul, or fūl medammis (in Egyptian Arabic: فول مدمّس; fuːl meˈdæmmes, in Coptic: ⲫⲉⲗ phel, fel or ⲃⲁⲩⲉ bauē) is a North African and Middle Eastern dish (MOAN region), made with fava beans (foul means "bean" in Arabic). It is considered by Egyptians as a "gift from God".
This culinary dish is calorie-rich, protein-rich, slow to digest and especially inexpensive.
In Egypt it is the national dish of the country.
